Tucson Botanical Gardens Field Trip

I am planning our first field trip of the year to the Tucson Botanical Gardens on April 23rd. We would be leaving in the morning and returning mid afternoon before school lets out for the day. The cost for each student is $3.00 dollars which I need to collect ASAP. I also will be needing some parent volunteers to go along with me and help supervise our class throughout the exhibits. The cost for adults is $7.00 dollars. If you can volunteer please see Ms. Irma at the front desk to fill out the paperwork and be fingerprinted for volunteering. She does this on Monday's and Thursday's. I would also like to take sack lunches to cut down on extra trips and issues. We could eat lunch at the gardens. LPA Golf Tournament

On March 20th La Paloma Academy will be sponsoring a golf tournament at Forty-Niner Country Club. If you are interested in putting in a team there is still time. The cost is 380.00 for a team of four. Last year I played and had a great time. There will also be give aways and free lunch as part of your team fee. Register soon because time is running out.

As you probably already know Spring Break is approaching fast. It begins this Thursday afternoon and ends Monday March 15th. School will be closed on these days and we will return bright and early Tuesday morning next week. I hope you enjoy your break and have fun with your families.

Multiplication Quizes

I will be giving multiplication fact quizes every Friday during our math time to help reinforce memorization of the multiplacation facts. Tomorrows quiz will be on the seven's facts. Useing flash cards works, well for practice as well as having them write them out on index cards. Each week will be a different set so feel free if they have mastered the currents weeks facts, to move on to a harder set. Thank you.

Supplies Needed

I hate to ask for this but I am in desperate need of a few supplies. I need crayons, scissors, rulers, and glue. I began this year with 20 of each item listed and to this day I have only a few loose colors and my personal pair of scissors. I do many art type activities as well as interactive lessons that require these items and not every student has each item. It is difficult to do group activities when everyone does not have the items needed to participate. I would really appreciate your help. Thank You in advance.

Progress Reports

I have sent out progress reports today with your student. If you do not get one it is because they have not given it to you or I still have it and would like to see you. On the report you will see any missing assingments (MA) or incomplete (INC) work that has been submitted. This cannot be submitted for points at this time. Work that is listed as absent (ABS) may be resubmitted for grading. You will also notice that there is not a Social Studies grade listed. I felt like it was not fair to submit grades to this point since they have not presented their Arizona Projects in class. I will send a grade report next Monday that will include their Social Studies grade at this point including the AZ project grade. Arizona Projects

I wanted to provide a heads up concerning the Arizona project we will be doing when we return for break. In effort to provide a good, well rounded, exploration of Arizona I have developed a poster-presentation project to go along with our lessons. The instructions for this project will go out the Monday we return back from break as well as the grading rubric I will use to grade these projects. On the instructions page it tell you what you can do to help your student with their project as these will mostly be done in class. They will need a poster, or tri-fold board which can be purchased at numerous locations (Walmart, K-mart, Walgreens, Office Max, etc.). These are relatively inexpensive and I will let you choose which poster or tri-fold you wish. This project will be based on information gathered, creativity, participation, and oral presentation as you will see in the rubric. This should be a fun way to explore our states history, animals, plants, and other points of interest. They will be due at the beginning of February which is about the halfway point in the quarter. If you have any questions you can email me or stop by the class one afternoon and view an example I have in class.

I hope that you are enjoying the holidays. I wanted to say thank you for all of the Christmas gifts that I recieved before the break. I also wanted to say thank you for all of your support before school let out for the break. You may have know through your student that my family was going through a tramatic experience with a close family friend in the hospital. On December 16th the day we let out for break she passed away. It was a sudden thing and it even forced me to leave school early several times to help with the family. I wanted to take this moment to say thank you for all of your support and understanding through the past through weeks. My family appreciates your kind words of encouragment and support.

Homework for 11/10-11/11

During our short break the students have been asked to try to find pictures on the internet that have to do with the constitution and its formation. May be a picture of the people gathering to sign the constitution. Possibly a picture of the constitution itself. Try to find what you can and print them out for class on Thursday. If you can't get one for technical reasons like your printer or computer doesn't work I totally understand. My feeling is that if most bring in something we will have items to choose from for these group projects. I can alos make copies here once I have pictures to work with.

Science this week!!!

We will be continueing our exploration of the Earth and the processes that cause change such as erosion, weathering, and chemical weathering. I will be giving a vocabulary quiz this week on various words that relate to this Science section. The words are: Core, Crust, Delta, Dunes, Earthquake, Erosion, Fault, Glacier, Landforms, Mantle, Plates, Sediments, Volcano, and Weathering.

They will be working with these words all this week so if you want to help them study for the quiz on Friday ask them about the definitions.
